IPL Hair Removal

The Forma Light is a non-invasive IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system that uses several different wavelengths of light to target the pigment in the hair follicle.  Once the light is attracted to the pigment in the follicle, the follicle heats up and kills the stem cells in the hair bulb that make it possible for more hair to be formed in the future.  Since the IPL is only targeting the pigment in the follicle, it is safe for the surrounding skin.  The Forma Light is safe for all skin colors, as long as there is a contrast between the hair color and skin color.  Laser hair removal will only work on hair that is in the appropriate growth stage, which is why it takes multiple treatments for hair reduction to occur.  However, even though the FDA has cleared laser hair removal as permanent hair REDUCTION, stress levels, certain medications, and hormone fluctuations may cause hair regrowth during and after treatment. 80% hair reduction is considered successful with IPL hair removal, however some people need touch up treatments periodically after finishing their treatment package.

Most people are concerned over whether IPL hair removal will be painful.  Clients usually describe the sensation as a brief warm feeling with a slight pinch when the IPL is fired.  This feeling is brief and subsides quickly.  We also have a Cryo cooling machine that will help with any discomfort throughout the procedure.

Because the light is attracted to the melanin in the hair follicle, it will not be effective for grey, white, or blonde hair.

In order to prepare for an IPL hair removal appointment, we recommend clients shaving the area that is to be treated the night before or the day of the treatment.  Waxing, tweezing, and using depilatory creams will need to be avoided during the time period of IPL hair removal.
